Hi, I have the same problem that Michael had, but in my case, with only 1 xl2370 connected DVI-DVI to my GTS250, the monitor is identified as a SyncMaster 530/531TFT (LXB550*), and I can't get it to work at 1920x1080 60hz, it sets itself at 1024x768 60hz. Even forcing it I only get 1920x1080 50hz. Is this a nvidia drivers problem? I can do this by connecting an old monitor via DVI-VGA adapter to the other port, because if I only plug the xl2370 I don't get a signal at all.
Thanks !

Thanks for this great review. I was doubting between the PX2370 and this one. I like the look of both, so on that side I don't mind which of the 2 it's going to be. Based on your review I'm now picking the XL 2370. I will be using it as a monitor to my Macbook Pro.

Thanks from The Netherlands

@trflach

You're feeding an analogue signal into a digital port - monitors are often quite fussy about this. The correct use of this cable is to connect it from the DVI port of your GPU to the D-Sub/VGA of the monitor so that it is receiving an analogue signal through an analogue port. Obviously this is not possible as the XL2370 doesn't have any VGA ports. Have you tried double checking that the monitor's input source is set correctly?

I would highly recommend getting yourself a VGA (male) to DVI (female) converter that attaches to the VGA port of your GPU and plugging a DVI cable into this and the monitor.

Hi I have an nvidia 9500gt with windows 7 and the most updated drivers (it has a dvi output and vga output, so 2 in total), and the syncmaster talked about above. Theres a cable going from the dvi-out on my gpu to my tv as the main monitor (w/ a dvi-to-hdmi cable). I tried hooking up the other vga-out (on the gpu) port to my syncmaster with a vga cable (I put a dvi-vga converter on the back of the syncmaster because the syncmaster doesnt have a vga-in on it). My computer recognizes the syncmaster and everything and even lets me "set up" multiple displays with both the tv and syncmaster. The only problem is that the syncmaster doesnt show any picture. Technically the computer is sending the video out, but the monitor isnt picking anything up. Any sugestions?

ps, i tried al sorts of combinations and the syncmaster just wont pick up the vga signal from the 9500gt.

Thanks for your kind comments. Your understanding of dynamic contrast is absolutely correct. Basically the backlight varies its intensity depending on the 'dark' and 'light' on the screen. Because it adjusts the entire image uniformly some areas suffer from this shift - we find that the implementation of this on Samsung monitors, especially the LED backlit ones, is fairly extreme. It is distracting at best and adds very little to the quality of the image - for work it serves no real purpose and it's only really on some specific films that we can see any benefit whatsoever.

Great site.

Was looking for more reviews but I suppose it's a blessing that I am not spoilt for choice. =)

With regards to the XL2370, I understand the concept of dynamic contrast but have yet to experience it in real life. In your opinion, is this dynamic-ity a negative when it comes to photo/video editing? Will this adversely affect my perception of the colour?

My understanding of dynamic contrast vs how backlights work leads me to believe that colours may appear to change depending on screen content. Or is Samsung way ahead of me in this regard.

Cheers,
Shawn.

We would love to know that too but Samsung haven't been able to give us a sample to review. As far as we can tell the screen itself offers similar performance, with differences being the DVB-T tuner, extra inputs and a little extra weight and thickness. The 5ms response time (typical, rather than grey to grey) could have something to do with the extra processing required in TV mode but we imagine the difference for games on the PC would not be noticeable.

Great review. I would also be interested in seeing how the XL2370HD model fares. Is the picture quality and speed as good as the XL2370 with only the added bonus of a TV-tuner or are there other differences as well.

Hi All,

I finally solved the issue.

After playing a little with Nvidia control panel I'm finally running both XL2370 monitor connected by DVI-DVI.

Second monitor still identified as 530/531TFT (LXB550*) with native resolution 1024*768, but i've adjusted it in the nvidia panel to run on 1920/1080 50hz and second monitor runs 1920/1080 60hz.
